Ground Hog Day! This celebration combines spring festivities with an ancient kind of 'Augury,' which is a word that means fortune telling. This augury traces it's beginning to the belief that animals can sense and even predict the future and the weather. The holiday is based in Gobbler's Knob, Philadelphia. Every year, residents pull the ground hog out of his burrow and place 2 scrolls in front of him. One scroll fortells an early Spring. The other fortells six more weeks of winter. Whichever scroll the groundhog walks towards is the one that he 'chooses'!
